Transparent (invisible) thread adventure

I’ve been reading about invisible thread, and today I’m trying it out.  I just managed to thread it onto my sewing machine.  No small feat for my eyes which can no longer see anything close up without my reading glasses.  Confession, I had to clean my lenses to thread this stuff.

I’m planning to stitch some binding onto a sweater with great results.  We’ll see what happens as sometimes my high hopes don’t match my abilities.

Image

Did I do that? It actually came out just like I hoped!

I’m pretty psyched.  Who knows what I’ll end up with by the end of the day.

Back to my sewing!

Happy Thursday Everyone!!

One of my favorite oldies from the local hospital rummage sale. I love imagining who owned it, and what they made.

Just waiting to be refashioned into something divine.

Hats, hats, hats!

Hats are my new thing.  I always felt self conscious wearing any kind other than a baseball cap.  Lately, I’ve been stepping out in my new red hat made by Italian hat maker Platania.  It jumped off the shelf into my cart, and who was I to say no to it’s red and magenta boldness?

Hat by Platania.  And me sans make up being first thing in the morning!

My new hat inspired my to refashion a few hats I scoffed from my mother’s closet.  She’s a big fan of my new refashioning projects.  Here is one before and after.

While this doesn’t have the flair of my Platania, I think it has a quiet, romantic sort of look.

What do you think??  Happy Monday!!

Rainy day refashion

Last week I rummaged through my closet for unwanted, unloved, and forgotten clothes in need of some recognition.  I found plenty!  I confess, I have way too many clothes, period.

I took three sweaters, cut them up, and this is what they look like now; one new dress.

I wore it with my cowboy boots and leggings, and got lots of compliments.  All from my friends no less, but considering it’s my first attempt refashioning sweaters, I’m surprised I could even wear it!

Will definitely be experimenting again!

How about you?  Ever ventured into making something into something new?  I’d love to see it!

A better bralette?

Being October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there’s been lots of focus on breast health.  After reading numerous articles about bras and under wires, I decided to go out out and buy a new Coobie wireless bralette.

Image

You may have seen this article in the September 2012 issue of InStyle.  It features Coobie bras.

I thought I’d probably have to find one online.  But last weekend I was walking through a clothing and home decor store in Rockland, when there suddenly in front of me was a whole display of Coobie bras in every color imaginable.  They have three styles:  a basic, a lace edge, and a wider strap, all with removable pads. I stood there for a while debating which color to get.  I settled on the basic black as I had already been shopping all morning, and getting starving hungry.  I noticed a small sign next to the display that said they also sold replacement pads for two dollars.  I paid eighteen dollars for the bra, and left to find food.

What do I think of Coobie’s?  It provides enough support for me (34B) with the pads.  It’s made of 88% nylon and 12% lycra.  Probably, the most telling sign is that I haven’t worn another bra since getting it.  Bottom line..if it’s a little healthier, looks good, is supportive, and comfortable, I’m happy with it.

Rainy day pastimes

Image

I have the day off today.  It’s raining, and I’ve been flipping through the latest Boden Winter 2012 catalog, which is always fun to do.  I really like this cover with the black, white, and red.

I’ve also been baking banana bread and drinking tea.  This morning I picked up some yellow nail polish, so I think I’ll paint my toe nails too.

After that, I’m heading to my closet to find unworn, forgotten, and fallen by the wayside clothes to refashion into new creations.  I promise to post the results, even if they don’t come out as well as I hope.  And then, maybe the sun will be out.  What are you doing today?

Beautifying from the inside

I love luxurious creams, masks, peels, scrubs, serums, you name it, I’ll try it. But, I have a new find that’s really making a difference.  How do I know?  Well, I haven’t told anyone about it, and I’m getting compliments on my skin even from my mother no less.

What is it you ask?  Yogi Skin Detox Tea.

I’ve been drinking it for about a month now.  I have a cup or two in the morning with breakfast.  I will tell you it has a fruity taste, but it’s not at all unpleasant.  Sometimes, I add a green tea bag to the teapot too if I’m not feeling fruity first thing in the morning.
I had read the reviews online rather skeptically, but was intrigued nonetheless.  So I gave it a try, and I do seem to be glowing, which is no small feat some days.

Let me know what you think if you try it.

In my bag now: MyChelle Little Kisses

When I find things I like, I just have to share.  Lately, I’ve been loving MyChelle’s Mineral Little Kisses in Beaujolais. It’s the perfect color for fall.

MyChelle Minerals Little Kisses Beaujolais is a tube lipstick that goes beyond the tinted lip balm category. The color is a warm matte mauve with flirtatious pink undertones.
I love the way it seems to last on my lips, sort of like a stain.  It goes on a little dry unlike a true creamy lipstick, so sometimes I add a clear gloss over it or just rub my lips together a few times. It’s healthy, safe, petroleum and lead-free. And it contains natural ingredients like castor seed oil, beeswax, and passion fruit extract.

I like that I can tuck it in my bag and just dab it on when I want a little color, but not have the fuss of lipstick.

I got mine at the whole food store downtown, but I’ve seen it online for about $8.00.
Little kisses come in these colors too:

I’m going to get the garnet next.  Will let you know what I think.

Smitten: My red bag

A blog inspired by a red bag.  Have you ever found something you just love that totally speaks of you? My red patent bag came to me via the Goodwill store.  I love that it’s so me, and that I bought it secondhand. So with my bag by my side, I begin blogging of two of my favorites, fashion and beauty.  Care to come along?
